Find/Develop Your Voice, Learn New Skills!
This class is designed for students with at least one previous class in clay experience or those who are transitioning from another medium. This is a class with individualized attention in demo/tutorial form. This small class enables your work to more forward conceptually and technically quickly, move beyond your own rut, or simply gain the tools to do that project in the the back of your mind!
Both functional and sculptural artists will be introduced to new methods. Potters and hand-builders alike will find tools to expand their current repertoire with embellishment and production methods. New and experimental techniques will be demonstrated (Slip and Fabric, Surface, Backwards engineering, mold making, and many experimental processes). Kilns will be run specific to the work and include firing techniques, including cone ten, as well as demos on techniques by request from students. Class members encouraged to demo as well. Join a community of makers who want to push themselves to the next level.
A note from the instructor:
In these classes I consider myself a partner to help you get a you to where you want to go. I look at your past work, watch you work, and ask questions about what is important to you, what your goals include, and what art you are drawn to love. These answers determine what tutorials and demonstrations I provide, what artists or books I steer you towards and how I direct your investigations. My approach to each student is highly individualized with the students' goals in mind. More often then not, I find that students (of all ages and levels of experience) understand more then they might at first give themselves credit for knowing about where their voice lies.
